Avalon Handbook
Dress Code
The Dress Code is SCARLET RED OR NAVY BLUE SCHOOL SHIRTS AND NAVY BLUE OR TAN KHAKI PANTS, SHORTS AND SKIRTS (FINGER-TIP LENGTH). Pants must be worn on waistline, no hip huggers. Shirts must be two inches below waistline.
It is encouraged that all students come to school in dress code, clean and in a well-groomed manner. Students that are proud of their appearance perform better in their work environment, SCHOOL.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Student Attendance. Ensuring student attendance is a family responsibility. However, student attendance has a financial impact on the quality of education the school is able to provide. Due to State Legislation, the school receives funding only when the student is in class. Therefore, absences of any kind have an adverse financial effect on the instructional materials, textbooks, field trips, and services being provided to your student.
Students must be aware that attendance in all classes is important for a successful academic experience. A direct correlation exists between good attendance and high academic scores, enjoyment of school and eventually success in the work force. Building good habits for life such as reliability and punctuality are equally important. Students need to understand that at this point in their lives school is their number one priority. If you have a concern about your student’s attendance, please call the Attendance Office.
HOMEWORK POLICY
Homework is a central characteristic of Excalibur Charter Schools. It has three major purposes:
1. To teach personal responsibility and time management skills.
2. To keep parents informed about what their children are studying.
3. To provide additional academic growth and development.
Parent responsibilities concerning homework are as follows:
1. To provide a time and a place free from distraction for the work to occur.
2. To sign the daily planner review the child’s work and provide words of encouragement, not correction.
3. To work closely with the teachers if problems occur.
DISCIPLINARY REFERRALS
Avalon Elementary uses a three-level disciplinary referral. Each level has corresponding demerit points. When a total of seven demerit points are accrued, the student is in jeopardy of being suspended on a long-term basis for the remainder of the year. Students who have been long-term suspended will need to petition the School Board for re-admittance regardless of the school year that the suspension was involved.
