Back to School At Avalon Elementary School
Avalon Elementary School, a K-8 public charter school, is welcoming students back to school on Wednesday, August 6th. New students are still welcome to apply although enrollment is now limited due to waiting lists in some grade levels. Please call (480) 373-9575 to find out if openings are still available for your children. The school is located at 1045 South San Marcos in Apache Junction. Many parents in the community have discovered the opportunities at Avalon over the past three years. Avalon offers a clean, structured, safe environment, with small class sizes, character education, and strong curriculum administered by highly qualified professionals that encourage a love for learning.
This will be another exciting school year at Avalon. The Reading First Program will be offered for the second year and, beginning this fall, Avalon will be a 21st Century Learning Center site offering free after school and summer school programs for eligible students and their parents. Students will enjoy healthy after school snacks, receive homework help, and experience a variety of activities including academic assistance, physical education, sports programs, strategy games, computer clubs, art/music/drama programs, journalism, and adult GED/English Language Instruction in a safe, supervised environment.
Seventh and Eighth grade students at Avalon will also benefit from the new Career Exploration Opportunities program funded through a state AIMS Remediation/Drop-Out Prevention Grant. Each student in this program will work with Avalon’s Guidance Counselor to develop a Personal Learning Plan integrating personal and academic achievement goals, workforce skills, career portfolios, aptitude inventories, secondary plans, and post secondary plans. Students who fall behind will be offered tutoring, remediation, mentoring, after school programs, and summer school opportunities.
